Emo, si de ce ar trebui sa-mi pese?!

Nu sunt la curent cu ce se intampla la televizor pentru ca, dintr-un motiv sau altul, mi se pare o mare pierdere de timp. In afara de cate un meci din cand in cand, am lucruri mai bune de facute decat sa belesc ochii la altii care-si dau cu parerea. Iar ce ma intereseaza aflu de pe bloguri. Dar in ultimele zile am vazut ca toata lumea vorbeste despre pustoaica de 12 ani care s-a sinucis. Si a inceput toata lumea sa dezbata pe marginea subiectului Emo. Pana anul trecut, habar n-aveam ce inseamna Emo. Auzisem, dar nu ma interesase niciodata cu adevarat subiectul. La un moment dat, citesc niste chestii si zic hai ma sa vad si eu care-i treaba, sa nu mor prost.

Si am aflat ca persoanele Emo sunt acei oameni emotivi, sensibili, timizi, introvertiti, nelinistiti. Si ca termenul de Emo este asociat starilor de depresie, automutilare si sinucidere. Oau! Cine-a mai auzit de deprimati sau inadaptati suparati pe viata care se gandesc sa se sinucida? Noroc cu emo. Da’ nu, ca asta nu-i tot. Un emo nu-i emo daca nu se imbraca cu blugi nu stiu de care, tricouri negre, are coafura pe care o are si-si da cu oja pe unghii.

De ce oare trebuie sa apara atatea discutii de fiecare data cand un terminat de redactor de stiri descopera un termen nou? Ca vad acum peste tot, emo in sus, emo in jos. Vezi Doamne, tinerii din Romania sunt in pericol din cauza curentului emo. Hai sa-nnebunesc! Fix asta era problema tinerilor din ziua de azi, curentul emo! Numa’ Hitler e de vina, lua-l-ar naiba cu freza lui cu tot!

Shoemoney sold AuctionAds to Media Whiz

This is already old news, but I had to write about it. Last week, Shoemoney sold his part of the Auction Ads network to Media Whiz, which currently owns Text Link Ads and ReviewMe, which we already know, and if you don’t you should be ashamed. Auction Ads was started by Shoemoney in cooperation with Media Whiz only four months ago and it had a whopping start, gathering 25,000 publishers.

For those that don’t know how Auction Ads work, it’s pretty easy. Auction Ads is actually a big eBay affiliate, which gathers all its members into a large affiliate, because eBay pays its affiliates depending on the number of sales (the more sales you have, more money you make).

Auction Ads was paying its members 100% so it had no significant revenue and the amount of money involved in this transaction wasn’t made public.

Top 50k blogs generated $500 million revenue last year

Here’s something that could really get you motivated in dedicating more time to blogging. Chitika and the University of Texas conducted a Blog Dollars Study which estimates that the top 50,000 blogs generated $500 million in 2006. This is one of the first studies that tries to estimate the revenue involved in blogging. The estimation is based on Chitika’s network of 12,000 publishers and the top 50,000 blogs are determined by their Technorati rank. Of course, this is not very accurate, but it gives an idea of the dollars involved in blogging.

And here’s how the revenue is distributed:

* The top 1% accounted for approximately 20% of the total revenue.
* The top 5% accounted for approximately 50% of the total revenue.
* The top 10% accounted for approximately 80% of the total revenue.
* The top 15% accounted for approximately 90% of the total revenue.

Alexa Toolbar for Firefox

Alexa finally released the long waited Toolbar for Firefox. If you would’ve told me that a few weeks ago, I couldn’t care less. But recently, I noticed I have a small obsession for checking the Alexa ranking of almost every site I visit. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but one thing is for sure, I do it. How does this help me? Actually it doesn’t. So why do why do it? Beats me…I try to compare my blogs’ stats with other blogs I visit and see how I stand, but I get no useful information, because deep down I know Alexa isn’t very accurate. So I am afraid of installing the new toolbar, which, beside showing the site’s rank, it also shows a graph with the visitors’ trend on that website. The toolbar also finds sites that are similar to the one you are currently visiting, but I don’t care, I don’t need that.

So, the conclusion is that I’ve decided to let some time pass before I install it, at least until I get over this Alexa madness.

It all starts with these lines. I’m sure anyone who ever installed a blog got these lines and will keep this first entry named like this, because I think it’s a symbol for what we do around here. I am not going to say anything fancy in this first post, just that my name is Vlad Balan and that you can find more about me here.

Through this blog I will try to let everyone (who is interested, of course) know about me, about my projects, about the challenges I meet every day and will try to share the experience I got in almost 2 years of online business and, of course, learn new things because I’m sure that there is a lot more to know in this extraordinary domain which is the internet, and especially blogging.
